Joshua 1:9
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for the Lord thy God is with thee wherever thou goest.
I have heard nonbelievers say that Christianity is for sissies. They go on to say that it is a crutch for those who aren’t strong enough to make it on their own. That type of dumb logic never has bothered me because it is so idiotic. It is like the man who doesn’t want to quit smoking who says, “Anyone can stop smoking, but it takes a real man to face cancer.” You have to wonder about the IQ of one who makes a statement like that.
I can assure you that the Christian life is definitely not for sissies. It is a hard life and you must have courage to live it. The fact is that when you become a Christian, you line up against some very real enemies. The devil, who is behind every enemy of the Christian, uses many tactics to assault. He uses the world system, peer pressure, fear and many others to try to bring you to defeat. He is committed to his battle plans and is going to test, tempt and try the you every step of the way.
It is no coincidence that God told Joshua three times in this passage to be of good courage and not to be afraid. He knew the power of the enemy and of his relentless assault against all who will choose to live Godly lives.
God has called each of us to live in the supernatural and to accomplish great feats for the Kingdom of God and for His glory. This is not a life for sissies and weaklings, it is for those who are strong and courageous.
We are living in a world that is anti-Christian and anti-God. Each and every day we must be empowered by the Holy Spirit because if not we will be ineffective and will surely wear out. It is like swimming upstream constantly. We must take to heart what God said and be strong and very courageous, do not let the Word of God depart from our mouths, but we must meditate in it day and night and then we will make our way prosperous and will find good success.
