something to work with

Hebrews 3:1

…Holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession,Christ Jesus;

Your profession is what you say with your mouth and comes from what you believe in your heart. Jesus is the High Priest of your profession. What does that mean? It means that Jesus is watching over the words that you speak and has the authority to bring them to pass. Whatever we confess with our mouths that is in line with the Word of God, activates Jesus to see to it that they actually come to fruition. The Apostle and High Priest of our confession means the He is the one sent by God to watch over our words and actions of faith to see to it that they come to pass.

When the Bible tells us that we will have what we say we have, it is another way of letting us know that the words we speak are of utmost importance. If we do not speak positive, faithful words that are in line with the Word of God, then we are not giving Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our faith, anything to work with. He has only been given the authority to work with what we say in faith.

What does this mean in a practical way. It means that when we have financial needs that we confess agreement with Philippians 4:19, “My God shall supply all my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” When we have sickness coming upon us, we take the Word of God and say, “By His stripes I am healed.” By so doing, we put ourselves in the place to receive the provision that God has for us, because we have given our High Priest a confession that He can work with, one that agrees with the Bible.

Some might say here, “I couldn’t confess that I have something that I really don’t have, that would be like lying.” If this is the case, then Joel would have been telling people to lie when he said, “Let the weak say I am strong.” We must give Jesus something to work with and that something a word of faith from the Bible.

MY WORD CONFESSION: Jesus is the Apostle and High Priest of my confession, I will give Him words of faith to work with.
