let it show

1John 3:18

My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

You have heard the saying, “Talk is cheap”. Well it is certainly a true statement. It costs nothing to talk. In fact, any one can do that and there are lots of people talking about the Christian life that are not living it. The Bible says that we are to show people what a Christian is to be like by the way that we live and not just by what we say. The true measure of a Christian is the life that is lived.

Paul said in 1 Corinthians 4:20 that the Kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. What did he mean when he said that? He meant just what I am talking about here. He meant that talk is cheap but real Christianity is demonstrated by a lifestyle and not just words.

At another time, Paul said the same thing in 1Timothy 4:12 when He told young Timothy to be an example of the believer, not in word only, but also in conduct, love, spirit, faith and purity. In other words, not just in talk but also in the way he lived.

It is so important that we live the life that we talk about. People may not listen to what we say, but they sure do pay attention to what we do. You can be assured if you claim to be a Christian that someone is watching your life to see if Christianity has anything worthwhile to offer them, to see if there is anything that you have that will help them to make it in their own life.

It has been said that the life that one lives is the most powerful sermon they will ever preach. Truer words were never spoken. Most of the time, people can’t hear what we are saying because what we are doing is talking so loud.

You can tell me how wonderful the Christian life is, but it will speak much louder if you will show me with your life. Put your life where your mouth is. If the Christian life means anything to you, let it show.

MY WORD CONFESSION: The Christian life is not in word but in deed, I will put my life where my mouth is and let it show.
